ABOUT
MY STORY
I have been creating art for as long as I can remember; my parents have drawings saved from when I was four years old. During my time at high school, I ran a public art account where I posted everything that I drew, both traditionally and digitally. I always drew what I was passionate about, or things that I was interested in, and I was fascinated with the idea of sharing these interests through my art. I always found drawing to be my primary creative outlet. No matter what emotions I was feeling, I was able to interpret my thoughts onto paper.
My biggest inspirations are Keith Haring and Louise Bourgeois. Specifically the work that Haring has done for the LGBTQIA+ community with his art, and Bourgeois for her art style. My work has aesthetic value, social value, and authentic value, all of which I take pride in, as my work is a reflection of myself.
Some extra things about me as a person! I am 21 years old and use he/him pronouns. I’ve had several pet spiders over the past few years. My favourite genre of music is Nu Metal, but I can and will listen to anything! I always surround myself with my friends, never turning down an opportunity to chat and have some fun. I’m hardworking, cooperative, passionate and driven by tackling challenges.
My name is Riley Hurst and my creative practice is Visual Arts. I am an established Illustrator and emerging Art Director, commencing my third year at Deakin University. In 2025 I will achieve my Bachelor of Visual Communication Design and while I complete my studies, I work part-time at Coles as a trolley collector and cleaner.
I am currently in the Core Creative Arts sector, producing visual arts. Post graduation, I am aiming to be in the Related Cultural Industries sector, producing advertisements and developing brand identities for a range of companies and clients.
My process involves a lot of sketching; I draw everything that comes to mind, and I believe that there are no bad ideas. I primarily use graphite pencils, fine liners, and markers, specifically POSCA and COPIC markers in my traditional art. Digitally, I am well-versed in the Adobe suite programs Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, as well as Blender and Figma. I also have some experience working with Canva, Maya, Excel, and Tinkercad.
